I was a fat kid, and in Malaysia, it’s not cool to be a fat kid since almost everyone around you is stick thin. So, I grew up with the pressing knowledge that I have to de-size pronto.
After secondary school, I made a solemn vow to attend college a totally new person – thin, beautiful, popular … and hopefully snag a boyfriend along the way. Fantastically, I did most of it – even the boyfriend bit – and at 60kg, I was the thinnest I’ve ever been.
Then I graduated with a diploma, and I worked for an asshole of a boss, and in my stress, piled the weight back on and then some.
By the time I went to Australia to finish my degree, I was 70kg overweight.
Somehow, through lots of exercise, I managed to maintain my weight while my peers balooned with the freshman 15.
But when I returned home and finally got a job, I piled more weight on my 70kg, until at the end of 2008, I was 88kg, the heaviest I’ve ever been.
I now believe that my inability to lose weight was due to insulin resistance, and am now actively trying to reverse it.
My ultimate goal is to be 60kg again, or better yet, my dream weight: 55kg. Wish me luck!
